What is UPSC/IAS Exam/Civil Services Examination?

The UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE), commonly referred to as IAS Exam, is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) annually. The examination takes place in three stages – Preliminary, Main and Personality Test. The notification for the exam can be expected by February of every year, with the Preliminary exam scheduled in May/June, Main in September and the Personality Test during February-April.

Those who clear all the three stages of the IAS exam get to see their names in the final recommended list by the UPSC and enter into the coveted civil services of the country, and become officers in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and a host of other services.

The exam process is considered to be India’s toughest due its gruelling nature and competition. However, with the right preparation and strategy, an aspirant can get through all three stages and pass the examination.
